Good Evening. Please know that when your child rides another bus home or needs to get off at a bus stop other than their own designated stop, a parental note is needed. The parental notes need to be signed and stamped by office staff at your child's respective school. Without this documentation presented to the driver when boarding the bus, students will be sent back inside the school to await parent pickup. Please help us to keep your students safe. Thank you

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Barbour County Schools Clarifies Flexibility in Transition to the Newly Renovated Belington Campus
Barbour County, WV –After careful consideration and extensive consultation with staff, families, and community stakeholders, Barbour County Schools believes it is necessary to clarify the transition from Belington Elementary School to Belington Middle School. As indicated in the Impact Statement, it is proposed that Junior Elementary School be closed at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and that its students merge into Belington Elementary School. The vote to close Junior Elementary School and merge into Belington Elementary school will still take place on November 10, 2025. As part of that plan, all students would then attend Belington Elementary School in the newly renovated Belington Middle School building. There is a distinct possibility that the renovations planned for the Belington Middle School building will not be completed by the start of the 2026-2027 school year. Therefore, the transition to the building will not take place until the start of the 2027-2028 school year.
Since the building will not be fully ready for students by the start of the 2026-2027 school year, current 4th graders at Junior Elementary will attend 5th grade at the Belington Elementary School campus for the 2026-2027 school year, ensuring a seamless and stable experience for students as they matriculate to middle school the year after.
By adding flexibility into the schedule, Barbour County Schools will avoid the need for staff and students to be temporarily housed at Belington Elementary School and will prevent multiple classroom moves and loss of learning time during the school year. This decision ensures that transitions occur once, in a fully prepared and welcoming environment. Located within five miles of the Belington campus, Junior Elementary School is well positioned for a smooth and community-centered transition when the time comes. The flexibility supports the district’s commitment to thoughtful planning, stability, and continuity for both students and staff.
This flexibility reflects Barbour County Schools’ ongoing dedication to providing every child with access to certified teachers, full academic support, modern facilities, and enriched learning opportunities. The district remains steadfast in its mission to offer high-quality educational experiences while responsibly managing resources and facilities.
Barbour County Schools sincerely appreciates the continued support, understanding, and input of the community as these plans move forward.
